Innovative soil and groundwater remediation techniques that address contaminated land management in a sustainable way are available, but their market uptake is low throughout Europe. Improving their implementation would lead to significant cost savings, a boost for the market in environmental technology, and important gains in sustainability.
EURODEMO was the first European network for demonstrating innovative remediation technologies. In EURODEMO, innovative remediation technologies were supported by providing comprehensive information through reports, directories and promotional workshops. The information provided was targeted on the defined needs of end-users, and interesting national developments and knowledge sources for individual technologies, applications and processes were identified and generated.
The work of EURODEMO was seen as a vital component of the multi-strand approach that is needed to challenge entrenched market barriers for new technologies and to support the expansion of field implementation of technology innovation throughout Europe. However, knowing that market barriers for new technologies are a long-term and demanding issue, it was decided at the end of the project that the network activities should be continued in form of a follow-up network EURODEMO+.
