Market uptake of innovative soil and groundwater remediation technologies is disappointingly low throughout Europe because of stakeholder confidence issues. Technology demonstrations are vital to improve confidence levels and therewith to provide better access to a European or global market. In this special session, the relevance of demonstrations for the field of soil and groundwater remediation shall be stressed. Demonstration needs, existing support measures and stakeholder responses will be presented and discussed in an open forum. Future strategies and current developments on European scale will be discussed. Additionally, EURODEMO+, a new European network of national demonstration platforms shall be introduced.
This session is organized in conjunction with NICOLE's SpS 25 "So many issues for research; a look at what the industry needs". Successful demonstrations are both part and outcome of successful research, and both the industry's and technology provider's views and needs are main drivers for innovative developments. Both Sessions have been scheduled consecutively, resulting in three closely related 90-minute slots. The transition between the topics is scheduled within the second slot of SpS 25.
