EURODEMO+ Activities

Austrian Technology Platform preparing an overview and classifications of in-situ technologies

The Austrian chapter of EURODEMO+ is established as working Group “Technology Platform” of the Austrian Association for Contaminated Sites Management (AACSM). In preparing a “Quickscan” regarding in-situ remediation technologies the responsible expert panel adopted the specific chapter classifying the development of a variety of in-situ technologies by December 2009. This part of the report was published in January 2010 and supports research focus lines defined for the period 2010 to 2012. The full report providing an overview on in-situ technologies available and under development shall be published by June 2010 (in German). Considering future remediation needs in Austria selected technologies will be recommended for

  • being available and having increased market potential,
  • further development through demonstration projects and
  • having research and development needs as well as possible future market potentials.

E+ contact requests

Between November 2009 and February 2010, the following three EURODEMO+ requests have been received and circulated among the partners:

  • CEE contacts request (TASK, DE) for training initiatives of remediation technologies in Central and East European countries (Nov 2009)
  • ISCR contacts request (Adventus Europe, AT) for consortia, organizations interested in exploring in-situ chemical reduction remediation technologies (Nov 2009)
  • Phytoremediation projects contact request (European Bioenergy Research Institute, UK) regarding Heavy Metal contaminated sites remediated using phytoremediation (Feb 2010)

If you are interested to contribute or learn more, please contact the secretariat!

Guidance on Verification of Remediation of Land Contamination

A new report by the Environment Agency explains how to check whether the remediation of land contamination has proved successful and met the intended goals.

This new report “Verification of Remediation of Land Contamination” offers guidance on designing a verification programme to increase confidence in the outcome of a remediation strategy. The document naturally follows on from CLR11 Model procedures for the Management of Land Contamination, and it is assumed that it will be followed and referenced by UK consultants in all of their verification / summary reports in future. It can be downloaded from CL:AIRE.

Green remediation proceedings at EUGRIS

The GreenRemediation Conference in Copenhagen was successfully carried out in November 2009. 120 participants from 12 countries joined the 2 day event sharing knowledge and building networks. The Proceedings with papers, presentations and posters are now available on EUGRIS.

SURF UK Framework

A recent publication of the SuRF-UK Framework titled “A Framework for assessing the sustainability of soil and groundwater remediation” has just been published by CL:AIRE. It is the first authoritative framework to guide sustainability assessment.
